5Chock full of Undead fun!Nov 17, 2009
Lots of fun screwing over other players. Needs more zombies though. Spring for the extra Bag o' Zombies and your game will be complete.

4The dead walk!Feb 10, 2008
I'm going to start by saying "I love this game"! I found a game called Zombie Town at my local board game store and, being a fan of zombie movies, had to buy it. I liked that game so I looked for more zombie games, and that's when I found this one. Now I hardly play anything else!

This game takes up a lot of space on your table. I have a very long, but not very wide table. I can maybe lay five tiles across before I run out of room. I bought two of the expansions, and am feeling the size problem even more now. Pretty soon I will be getting a new table that is bigger which will solve this problem, but for now it's very annoying. You can always play on the floor, but at my age that's very hard to do.

The nice thing about this game is that it doesn't take that long to set up and play (the first time you play takes a bit longer). The town square tile is placed at the center of the table and each person selects a pawn and places it there. Each person gets three bullet and life tokens and is dealt three cards. Roll to see who goes first and away you go. You can easily adjust the length of the game depending on how long you want to play. You can play a quick fifteen minute game or drag it out for hours. It's your choice.

The first part of the game is a bit slow. Players are just trying to survive and collect some items that will help them in the end, and also try to keep the streets clear of zombies. Once the helipad appears the pace picks up and it's a race to the finish. If there are any city tiles left at this point, my friends and I don't even bother placing them any more.

I would have to say the best part of this game is that the rules are very flexible. The rules state that any player that collects 25 zombies wins the game. However, my friends and I changed that so you have to kill a minimum of 25 zombies before you can head to the helipad to win the game. The Twilight Creations, Inc web site even has a page dedicated to rules variations. You can create the game you want to play.

4Fun game, with a few minor rule changesFeb 06, 2006
Zombies!! is exactly what it says it is: A game about people running from zombies. While the play mechanics of the game are fairly simple, it's still a fun game with strategy, action, and oh yeah, the walking dead.

Each player takes on the role of a survivor facing a horde of zombies. Your goal is to survive long enough to either kill 25 zombies or reach the helipad and escape. In other words, it's just like a zombie movie. Fight or escape!

The play mechanics are fun, but when I play, I find it's better if a few modifications for the rules are in effect:
#1) START THE GAME WITH 3 BULLETS AND 5 LIFE.
#2) A BULLET TOKEN CAN BE SPENT AFTER A FAILED ATTACK TO AUTOMATICALLY KILL A ZOMBIE (INSTEAD OF A MEASELY +1)
#3) WHEN A PLAYER IS KILLED, INSTEAD OF LOSING HALF HIS ZOMBIE TALLY, HE ONLY LOSES 5.
#4) SET ASIDE ALL EVENT CARDS THAT HAVE TO BE PLAYED AT A SPECIFIC LOCATION. WHEN A PLAYER REACHES A LOCATION, HE CAN PLAY ANY EVENT CARD FROM THE POOL THAT APPLIES TO THAT LOCATION. A PLAYER CAN ONLY PLAY ONE KIND OF ANY CARD FROM THIS POOL PER GAME.
#5) SOMETIMES, I LEAVE THE HELIPAD ZOMBIE FREE. OR PUT LESS THAN 9 ON IT.

With these rules, the game works best for me. Of course, it still plays fine with its regular rules. But it's just too easy to die, and practically impossible to win by collect twenty five zombies. This game is a worthy addition to any zombie fan's game shelf.

5What a great game...Jan 23, 2006
Zombies!!! consists of little plastic men (with shotguns), a deck of glossy cardstock street tiles, another deck of event/weapon cards, and a bag of little plastic zombies (with their stomachs torn out). I sat down and played this with four friends, and we expected maybe 45 minutes of mindless fun. What we got was almost 3 hours of backstabbing strategy as we tried to get to the helipad (and escape) while dumping as many problems (read: zombies) on each other as possible. The rules are simple yet flexible, and if you've a creatively devious mind you'll be able to accomplish a lot, at the expense of your friends.

How about the card that suddenly doubles the number of zombies in a given building? Drop that on your buddy right when he walks in to the lawn & garden store to try and get a chainsaw as a weapon. This is not a game you play with sensitive people who need to ride on the coat-tails of others to succeed; there is no Mr. Nice Guy here.

The only thing I'd recommend is the purchase of an additional bag of zombies (100 at a time) -- we ran out really quickly, after one of our group kept dropping cards on the rest of us that resulted in a series of increases in the number of undead in play.

Anyway, I ran out and bought the mall expansion pack a few days after playing it for the first time. It was a great time, and we're looking forward to playing it again.

Simply put, if you have enjoyed any of the "...of the Dead" movies, this one's for you, period.

4When there's no more room in hell...Oct 03, 2005
What I love:
* The tile-based nature of the game and the variety of event cards make gameplay different every time.
* The game requires strategy if you plan to win, and the event cards can change your situation dramatically.
* The event cards are cleverly illustrated and can be quite graphic.
* Fights with zombies are determined by a roll of the die, so if you decide to blaze into a building of zombies, you'd better hope luck is on your side.
* One of your goals is to try to make sure your opponents meet their doom at the hands of the undead.
* The game can easily be tweaked in a lot of ways to keep it interesting. The game can get long, so you can also easily tweak it to have a shorter game.

What I don't love:
* All the hero figures look exactly the same--a bearded dude with a shotgun. Boring.
* All the zombie figures look exactly the same. It's not a huge deal, but it would be neat to have several different types of zombies.
* Some of the event card instructions can be vague, but as long as you all agree on what it means and stick to it, it's fine.
* Amazon doesn't carry any of the expansion packs! Thankfully my local comic book store does.

I had to rate this game's educational value. I think strategy games really help a person develop critical thinking skills, but this game isn't really for kids. The game recommends ages 12-adult.
