Game for the whole familyJul 03, 2008 My husband introduced our family to this game. Our teenaged boys love this game! The game is loud, but it is a lot of fun. The cards are not plastic coated so the deck wears out. We are on our third deck.
Fun for adultsMar 16, 2008 I just played this game with some friends from work and their spouses. I wasn't too thrilled when I heard it was a loud game because I'm on the shy side. However, everyone is shouting at the same time so I quickly forgot about that. I'd recommend playing around a table that way you can slide your cards to each other. It was super easy to learn the game, we played one hand and everyone caught on. I can see why the deluxe edition come with a bell. No one would hear when someone would yell "pit!" Without the bell, you can just yell "pit" and lay your cards faced up.
Not as shownMar 10, 2008 I loved Pit as a kid...(with the orange bell!) so I was delighted to find this for my family. However, this one doesn't come with a bell! And the categories are different than what is shown. I sent it back & got the deluxe version with the bell!
Great party game for all agesFeb 24, 2008 Pit is a wonderful party game for people age 5 through adult. It is patterned after the trading floor of the stock exchange. You try to get nine cards -- "corner the market" -- of the same suit by trading with the other players. The fun part is that you don't take turns; everybody trades at once by calling, "two, two!" or "four, four!" or whatever number of cards they want to trade. It usually gets very noisy and exciting.
If you played the game years ago, as I did, you will notice one important change. The suits are no longer different types of grain: wheat, corn barley, etc. Now they are cocoa, platinum, gold, cattle, oil, rice, silver and gas. This is probably a good change, because now it's easy to distinguish the different suits by their pictures, whereas in the old deck (mine, at least) the pictures were identical and only the writing was different. This makes it easier for young children or people with vision problems. Also there is one more suit, so now you can play with a maximum of eight players.
I found it interesting that the most valuable suit is not gold, but cocoa -- must have been disigned by a chocoholic!
The new deck includes a "corner" card which is not necessary and just gets in the way.
Great group gameFeb 14, 2008 I played this game as a child at family gatherings and just got it for my family. It is very easy to learn, and play--- even my 4 year old can play it with a partner and some help. It takes about 5 minutes to learn the game and the same amount of time to play it. The game says 3 to 8 players. But, you can play with more. To play the game you need as many suits as you have players. So if you get two sets of card you just add more suits for the extra players. I have fun and exciting memories of a large table full of relatives laughing and playing the game. We could play the games for hours.
